The Language Assistant provides translation, interpretation and linguistic support to the programme, enabling effective communication with local interlocutors and supporting operational delivery. The role supports meetings, field engagement and office-based tasks, ensuring accuracy, cultural awareness and confidentiality in all language-related work.

Key Responsibilities: 

These are the key things that you are responsible for delivering within your role. There will be activities and tasks in addition to this list that are expected from you, but most of your time will be: 

Specialist language support:  

• Provide consecutive interpretation between Ukrainian and English during meetings with local interlocutors. 

• Translate written texts and documents between Ukrainian and English. 

• Summarize and translate open-source local media and other information sources, as directed. 

Coordination support:  

• Take minutes of discussions and prepare summary reports from meetings and conferences. 

• Maintain and update contact lists of external interlocutors. 

• Arrange meetings with local interlocutors, as directed. 

Field support: 

• Provide interpretation and translation support during field missions as required. 

• Be able and willing to travel long distances and spend time away from home occasionally. 

Professional standards and conduct: 

• Maintain confidentiality, impartiality and objectivity in all aspects of work. 

• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and sound judgment when supporting interactions with diverse stakeholders. 

Stakeholders / Interdependencies: 

• Programme and operational staff: receive linguistic and administrative support to deliver activities. 

• Local interlocutors and partners: interpretation and translation facilitate effective engagement. 

• Administrative and coordination teams: ensure accurate scheduling, reporting and documentation. 

About You: 

Essential:  

• Ukrainian citizenship. 

• Minimum of 2 years of proven experience in written translation and oral interpretation. 

• Professional fluency in English, Ukrainian; Russian desirable 

• Strong written and oral communication skills. 

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; ability to work with digital documents. 

• Ability to work collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds: cultural, religious, gender, and political backgrounds. 

• Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities. 

• Demonstrated discretion and experience working with confidential information. 

• Customer‑service oriented and responsive. 

• Culturally sensitive with strong interpersonal skills 

• Flexible, adaptable and able to operate in dynamic environments.
