The British Embassy in Kyiv is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Senior Science and Innovation Officer.
Main purpose of job:
The UK’s Science and Technology Network (STN) and British Embassy Kyiv is looking for a Senior Science and Technology Officer for Ukraine. The role will lead delivery of the UK Government’s Science, Technology and Innovation work with Ukraine under the UK-Ukraine 100 Year Partnership.

Ukraine’s research and innovation is vital to its war effort, post-war recovery and growth. Building partnerships between UK and Ukrainian stakeholders supports Ukraine’s economy, recovery, and creates opportunities to share knowledge and partner together on innovation that can drive growth and underpin stability.
The jobholder will work as part of the UK Government’s global network of Science and Technology officers – the “STN” – a network of over 135 officers that delivers policy and programme engagement work to:
• Project UK S&T excellence and leadership globally
• Build and facilitate science, technology and innovation collaboration of value to the UK in critical technologies, climate and health.
• Provide insight and intelligence to inform UK international approaches in science, technology and innovation.
• In Ukraine, deliver activity that helps support UK science and technology stakeholders to contribute to Ukraine’s war effort, economy, and recovery under the UK-Ukraine 100 Year Partnership.
The Network sets the strategic direction for the role and the jobholder will be part of a regional team that covers Central and Eastern Europe, working closely with the Regional Manager based in Bratislava, Slovakia.
The jobholder will be based in the British Embassy Kyiv supporting the wider work of the Political, Economic, and Communications Section and Programme Teams, ensuring delivery contributes to the Ukraine Country Business Plan owned by His Majesty’s Ambassador in Kyiv. The jobholder will report directly to the British Embassy Kyiv’s Head of Economics Team, who leads on UK interests across the Ukrainian economy (including the tech sector). The role will cover the research and wider innovation space, including in AI and digitisation, identifying areas for UK-UA technical cooperation.

Essential qualifications, skills and experienceOur Ideal Candidate shows:
Fluent in English and Ukrainian at a minimum of C1 of the CEFR* framework. Experience of, or a demonstrated interest in science, technology and innovation landscapes and ecosystems.Experience in a similar role, creating partnerships and managing networksA university degree in a relevant topic – this could be in a field such as politics, economics, international relations, or alternatively science, technology and innovation. Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, as well as remotely with other teams located elsewhere. Willingness to travel within Ukraine, and possibly to the UK and locations in Europe.Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.Proficiency in MS Office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) Desirable qualifications, skills and experienceNice to have:

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Kyiv is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Ukrainian employment law. This is an official employment, and the salary is subject to official tax; currently 23%. The salary is a set rate and there are no additional allowances on top.
