Expertise France is the public agency for designing and implementing international technical cooperation projects. The agency operates around four key priorities :

• democratic, economic, and financial governance ;
• peace, stability, and security ;
• climate, agriculture, and sustainable development ;
• health and human development ;

In these areas, Expertise France conducts capacity-building initiatives and manages project implementation, leveraging technical expertise and acting as a project coordinator. This involves combining public sector expertise with private sector skills to drive impactful results. 

Objectives

The primary objective of this assignment is to facilitate clear and accurate communication between International Technical Experts and Ukrainian-speaking stakeholders through high-quality interpretation and translation services.

Scope of Work

The Language Assistant will perform the following tasks:

• Consecutive and Chuchotage Interpretation:
  • Provide consecutive interpretation during meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Offer chuchotage (whispered interpretation) during smaller meetings and informal interactions.
• Written Translation:
  • Translate technical documents, reports, presentations, and correspondence from English/French to Ukrainian and vice versa.
  • Ensure accurate and culturally appropriate translations.
• Communication Support:
  • Facilitate effective communication between International Technical Experts and local stakeholders (government officials, community representatives, and technical teams).
  • Assist in the preparation of bilingual materials for presentations, training, and reporting.
• Logistical and Administrative Support:
  • Support logistical and administrative arrangements related to translation and interpretation services.

4. Deliverables

The Language Assistant will be expected to deliver:

• Accurate and timely consecutive and chuchotage interpretation during meetings and events.
• High-quality written translations of documents, reports, and presentations.
• Efficient and effective communication support for all related activities.

Expertise France (EF) is the French government operator of international assistance projects, which presence in Ukraine has recently been strengthened. EF is implementing several projects, notably the EU Project Pravo-Justice, aimed to promote greater rule of law in Ukraine, in line with European standards and comparative practices, the "mAIDan" project, in close coordination with the French Embassy in Kyiv, with the aim of mobilizing French technical assistance to support Ukraine in addressing the emergency and preparing for reconstruction and the EU accession process. The agency is also supporting several health partners through the projects APPUI Health and REHAB.

The Expertise France is seeking the services of Language Assistants to support International Technical Experts deployed to the Government of Ukraine, namely different thematic Ministries. The Language Assistant will ensure seamless communication between the experts and local counterparts to facilitate the efficient execution of project objectives.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Language Proficiency:

• Native-level proficiency in Ukrainian.
• Highly proficient in both French and English, with strong written and spoken abilities.

• Education:
  • Bachelor's degree (or pursuing final year) in Languages, Translation, Interpretation, or a related field.
• Experience:
  • Previous experience in providing interpretation and translation services is desirable, even if gained through internships or volunteer work.
  • Experience with consecutive interpretation is a strong plus.
• Skills:
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong sense of diplomacy and cultural sensitivity
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.  
  • Adaptability and ability to work in multicultural environments.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn quickly and effectively, especially technical terminology and project-specific information.
