About MAG:

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. About the role:

The Mechanical Support Manager plays a vital part in supporting MAG’s work in Ukraine by ensuring that our full suite of confidence‑building and ground‑preparation assets are deployed and operated safely, and able to strengthen lifesaving operations. You will spend time both in the field and working remotely, offering practical technical expertise, guiding the correct use and maintenance of a wide range of mechanical assets, and taking the lead on the roller asset in particular. You will also lead on capacity development initiatives, mentoring and training staff on the use, maintenance and repair of ground preparation and confidence building assets. By advising both TFMs and teams on the most appropriate mechanical assets for operational needs and helping shape innovative solutions to difficult challenges on the ground, you will directly influence how we reduce risks for communities affected by conflict. You will also champion greener ways of working by identifying measures to reduce environmental impact across our machinery and fleet as well as broader net zero initiatives. This role will suit you if you want to apply your mechanical technical strengths in a humanitarian context, collaborate closely with dedicated colleagues, and contribute to work that is both demanding and deeply meaningful.

About the Ukraine programme:

Since the Russian invasion of 24th February 2022, Ukraine has been subjected to heavy artillery bombardment, missile, and air strikes, as well as the use of landmines and cluster munitions. The scale of the conflict and the use of high impact and indiscriminate weapons requires an urgent and extensive response. MAG responded to the crisis in 2022 and now employs nearly 440 staff in our Ukraine programme, in a range of operational and support/administrative activities, with further scale-up planned during 2026. The programme has a representation office in Kyiv, and operational offices in Mykolaiv (also covering accessible areas of Kherson) and Kharkiv.

Requirements

You will be someone who brings strong technical expertise and practical experience in managing, planning and deploying assets in a safe and efficient way, maintaining, and repairing mechanical assets in the field, ideally including demining and ground‑preparation machinery. Experience in, or exposure to, Humanitarian Mine Action, as well as previous work in Ukraine in a comparable role, is considered desirable and would help you navigate the operational realities more quickly, though it is not required. Practical experience and strong working knowledge of GPS based guidance systems would also be desirable, though not essential. You will be confident training and mentoring others, with experience building the skills of national staff and delivering hands‑on instruction in repair and maintenance fleet and other asset maintenance. Your organisational abilities will enable you to prioritise effectively, meet deadlines, and communicate clearly with colleagues, suppliers, and partners. You will be calm under pressure, proactive in improving systems, and committed to high‑quality work and MAG’s humanitarian mandate.

We’re looking for someone with:

• Proven experience in the management, planning and deployment of multiple mechanical assets
• Proven experience in developing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Demonstrated ability to conduct field trials and assessments

• Renumeration Package: £68,225.60 per annum including basic salary and all allowances and this increases with service.
• Accommodation: MAG will provide accommodation in-country.
• Leave: We recognise our staff work hard and need the appropriate time out to stay motivated. You'll have a minimum of eight weeks out of the programme per year.
• Flights: MAG provides four international flights home per year.
